Dr. Charles Basenga Kiyanda is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical, Industrial and Aerospace Engineering at Concordia University. He specializes in thermodynamics, compressible fluid dynamics, and combustion, with a focus on waste heat recovery technologies. His research includes collaborations with industry partners like Novopower Intl to develop energy-efficient systems for recovering waste heat from low-temperature sources.

His research interests span thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, nonlinear systems, and free-piston/linear generator-based Organic Rankine Cycle systems. He leads projects such as the Supersonic Rocket Engine Development and Waste Heat Electricity Production, with a demonstrator system under study at Concordia. Current collaborations involve Professors Luis Rodrigues, Pragasen Pillay, and Chunyan Lai.
He has advised three former students and offers graduate research opportunities in waste heat recovery through ENGR 6971 projects. Funding includes the Climate Solutions Prize (JNF Canada) and Innovée grants. Teaching includes courses like Vehicular Internal Combustion Engines and Thermodynamics.
