Charlene Geduld-Van Wyk

Charlene Geduld-Van Wyk serves as a Senior Lecturer in Emergency Health at the Central University of Technology within the Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences, Department of Clinical Sciences. She coordinates both the health management programme and Emergency Medical Care programme, demonstrating leadership in academic programme development and implementation.

Her educational background includes an MPhil in Emergency Medicine from the University of Cape Town (where she is currently pursuing her PhD), a Post Graduate Diploma in Higher Education from Rhodes University, a Bachelor of Technology in Emergency Medical Care from Durban University of Technology, and a National Diploma in Emergency Medical Care from Cape Peninsula University of Technology.

Dr. Geduld-Van Wyk's research focuses on Emergency Medicine, Academic Development in Higher Education, and Programme Development for Inclusive Learning Environments. She has published work examining factors affecting spinal motion restriction protocols in low-resource emergency settings and has contributed to important discourse on why academic development programmes designed to support black students in South African universities aren't working effectively enough.

She actively serves on multiple institutional committees including teaching, learning, assessment, quality enhancement, and curriculum development. Nationally, she has served on a task team for National Health regarding the transition from short courses to formal qualifications in emergency medical services, and as a committee member of the Higher Education Learning and Teaching Association of Southern Africa (HELTASA) in the programme development task team with the objective of creating inclusive spaces through programme development.
