Charlene Christie is a Professor of Psychology at SUNY College at Oneonta. She holds a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the University at Albany (SUNY), awarded in 2004. Her research focuses on psychological processes related to group membership and social identity, particularly examining how evaluations of other groups and individuals impact self-perception and social identity. She investigates topics such as stereotyping, prejudice, normative social influence, and the role of social identity in collective and personal self-esteem.
Christie has taught courses including Advanced Topics in Social Psychology, Capstone Research Laboratory in Social Psychology, and the Psychology of Diversity. She actively contributes to academic mentorship through the SPN Mentorship Program, offering guidance to underrepresented students in psychology.
Her research spans social psychology domains, including studies on anonymity effects in online peer evaluations, social dominance orientation, and open access attitudes among academic librarians. Her work emphasizes understanding intergroup dynamics, legitimacy of status differences, and the influence of ingroup members on social identity.
