Charlene Birdsong is a Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at California Polytechnic State University. She serves as the Parker Control Lab Director, Controls Course Coordinator, and Faculty Adviser for both Tau Beta Pi and Pi Tau Sigma honor societies.

Her research focuses on automotive safety, crash avoidance, autonomous vehicle control systems, and active noise control. Additional interests include sensor/actuator design, signal processing, and engineering education with emphasis on K-12 STEM outreach and classroom technology integration.
Birdsong leads numerical simulations of mechanical systems and contributes to safety modeling for autonomous vehicles. Her work spans vehicle dynamics, control systems, and pre-crash sensing technologies.
She directs the Parker Control Lab and serves as Director of the Bently Center for Engineering Education, demonstrating commitment to both research and educational innovation.
