Charis Marwick

Charis Marwick is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Population Health and Genomics at the University of Dundee's School of Medicine. She is an active researcher with 74 research outputs and 22 projects to her name, focusing on antimicrobial use and resistance, infection epidemiology, and health informatics. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being.

Dr. Marwick's educational background includes a PhD from the University of Dundee (2012), Diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (2007), MRCP from The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (2004), and an MBChB and BSc from the University of Glasgow (2001 and 1999 respectively).

Her research focuses on the epidemiology of infections, antimicrobial use and resistance, generating evidence to support policy changes through secondary use of population health data and novel data linkage with bacterial genomics. She leads and collaborates in multidisciplinary research involving social scientists and basic scientists. Her recent work examines antibiotic prescribing in care homes, antimicrobial resistance patterns, and the impact of healthcare changes on infection outcomes.

Dr. Marwick's publications reveal a strong trend toward population-based analyses of antimicrobial resistance, particularly in care home settings and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her work increasingly incorporates data science methods including natural language processing and machine learning for outbreak investigation and resident identification.

She is currently accepting PhD students and has been involved in numerous academic activities including examinations, peer review, and committee memberships.
