Chao Liu is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Wind and Energy Systems, Technical University of Denmark (DTU), specializing in power electronics for renewable energy integration and hydrogen production systems within the Power-to-X and Storage division.
His research focuses on high-efficiency power converters, advanced control strategies for bidirectional systems, and multi-energy storage integration, directly contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy). Key expertise includes solid-state transformers, electrolysis systems, and electromagnetic interference mitigation in power processing applications.
Recent 2025 publications reveal a concentrated research trajectory in optimizing hydrogen production infrastructure through model predictive control, partial power processing topologies, and nanocrystalline transformer designs, with strong emphasis on system efficiency (99%+), component stress reduction, and lifespan extension for electrolyzers.
As Principal Investigator for the ComElCo project (2022-2025), he leads competitive electrolyzer converter development targeting grid service integration and system efficiency gains. His experimental work includes constructing a lab-field multi-energy platform unifying electrolyzers, redox flow batteries, and lithium-ion storage for real-world validation of renewable energy buffering solutions.
