Chantal Reid is an Emerita Assistant Professor of the Practice in the Division of Environmental Sciences and Policy at Duke University's Nicholas School of the Environment. Her research focuses on physiological ecology with emphasis on environmental stresses affecting leaf gas exchange, plant carbon allocation, and impacts of global change factors like elevated CO2 and tropospheric ozone.
Her education includes a Ph.D. from Duke University (1990), M.S. from San Diego State University (1985), and B.S. from McGill University (1981).
Research interests center on physiological responses of plants to environmental stressors, particularly examining stomatal function dynamics and carbon allocation patterns under climate change scenarios. Her work also investigates mechanisms controlling establishment of invasive species in changing ecosystems.
Publications consistently explore plant-atmosphere interactions across climate gradients, with recent work focusing on trait syndromes in trees and reproductive ecology. Her articles integrate field observations with global-scale pattern analysis.
Laboratory activities focus on experimental approaches to measure carbon fluxes and plant physiological responses under controlled environmental conditions.
