Dr. Changwoo Yang is an Associate Professor of Library and Information Studies at Valdosta State University. He is affiliated with the MLIS Program and is based at Odum Library 4600. His academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Information Studies from Florida State University (2009), an M.L.I.S. from Florida State University (2001), and a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration from Incheon National University (1999).
Dr. Yang's research interests center around online LIS education, information-seeking behavior, and the use of technologies in libraries. His work bridges theoretical understanding with practical applications in library science, particularly focusing on how technology transforms library services and user experiences. His research spans diverse areas from professional technology competencies to adolescent health information seeking behaviors.
His recent publications (2019-2025) demonstrate consistent scholarly output with a clear focus on library technology implementation, educational approaches in LIS programs, and user information behavior. The publications reveal growing emphasis on practical technology applications in library settings, with several 2025 studies specifically examining Georgia library professionals' technology competencies and usage patterns.
Dr. Yang teaches key courses in the MLIS program including MLIS 7200 (Library Management), MLIS 7290 (Project Management in Libraries), MLIS 7570 (Information Architecture), MLIS 7520 (Database Management), and MLIS 7580 (Digital Libraries). His teaching directly reflects his research interests and expertise in library technologies and management practices.
Based at Odum Library 4600, Dr. Yang is actively engaged in both teaching and research within the MLIS program at Valdosta State University.
