Jun.-Prof. Dr. Chang Liu is a Junior Professor at the Institute of Biology, University of Hohenheim, Germany. His research focuses on chromatin structure, 3D genome organization, and epigenetic regulation in plants. He previously held roles as a Junior Group Leader at the Center for Plant Molecular Biology (ZMBP), University of Tübingen, and conducted postdoctoral research at the Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology and Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory in Singapore.
- Education:
- Ph.D. in Life Sciences (2010), National University of Singapore
- Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences (2005), National University of Singapore
His research interests include plant nuclear architecture, chromatin dynamics, and developmental genetics, particularly in Arabidopsis thaliana and other model plants. Key themes include the role of chromatin in stress responses, gene cluster regulation, and the interplay between epigenetics and transcriptional control. Recent work has explored 3D genome organization in algae, TAD-like domains, and the impact of small proteins on immunity.
Publications highlight advancements in visualizing protein-genome interactions, sex chromosome spatial organization in algae, and the genetic basis of plant reproductive systems. Collaborative efforts include genome assembly projects for ryegrass and chicory, emphasizing translational applications in agriculture and biotechnology.
Dr. Liu’s lab at Hohenheim employs cutting-edge genomic and imaging techniques to uncover fundamental mechanisms governing plant development and stress adaptation.
