Chandrasekhar Ramanathan is a Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Dartmouth College, with an adjunct appointment in Chemistry. He specializes in experimental quantum control and quantum devices at the interface of quantum information processing and condensed matter physics. His research focuses on spin dynamics in nanostructures, dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP), and quantum simulation using magnetic resonance techniques. He holds a B.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, an M.S. from UNC Chapel Hill, and an S.M./Sc.D. from MIT. Prior to Dartmouth, he conducted postdoctoral research at Harvard, Nottingham, and MIT.
His lab, the Quantum Spin Lab, develops advanced magnetic resonance methods to study solid-state spin systems. Key achievements include pioneering work on room-temperature DNP using diamond defects and applying machine learning to quantum control. He has mentored numerous graduate and undergraduate students, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations. Awards include the Moore Foundation Experimental Physics Investigator Award and the John M. Manley Huntington Award. His work spans quantum sensing, Floquet engineering, and surface characterization using NMR/DNP, with applications in materials science and quantum technologies.
