Chandran Pfitzner is an Adjunct Professor in Applied BioSciences at Macquarie University. His research focuses on genetic biocontrol of invasive vertebrates using CRISPR-based technologies. He completed a PhD in Molecular Biology (2016–2020) and holds a BSc (2013–2015) and a BCompSci (2001–2006) from the University of Adelaide.
Key research areas include engineered genetic incompatibilities (EGIs) in zebrafish, CRISPR gene drives, and synthetic biology applications. He recently led Phase II of a genetic biocontrol project using fish models (2023–2024). Awards include the Dean's Commendation for Doctoral Thesis Excellence (2020).
His work spans methylmercury metabolism in animals, transgenic insects (black soldier flies), and improving CRISPR-Cas9 efficiency. Collaborations include studies on cell adhesion in neurodevelopment and biocontrol strategies for invasive species.
