Champika Manel Epa Ranasinghe is a Lecturer at the University of Twente's Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science (EEMCS), affiliated with the Data Management and Biometrics (DMB) group. Her research focuses on smart technology, tangible interaction, and situated computing, aiming to bridge physical-digital systems for natural human-computer interaction. She explores data physicalization to enhance data engagement and sensemaking through ambient and multimodal interfaces.
Education: PhD in Computer Science from the University of Münster (2018), M.Sc. from the University of Moratuwa (2013), and dual Bachelor/Master degrees from University of Kelaniya and University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Research interests include human-centered design, ubiquitous computing, and rehumanizing data through physical representations. Notable achievements include the 2018 Dutch Hack Health Award for innovative healthcare solutions. She actively engages in consultancy (e.g., Tetem, Enschede) and delivers invited talks on topics like climate change data engagement and NCD prevention.
