Chaithra Puttaswamy is an Associate Professor in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. She holds a PhD in Linguistics from SOAS, London (2009), an M.A. from JNU Delhi (2002), and a B.Sc. from Bangalore University (2000). Her research specializes in Field Linguistics with a focus on the Malto language, including documentation projects funded by the Endangered Languages Documentation Programme and IIT Kanpur.
Research Interests: Her work centers on descriptive linguistics, morphological analysis, and grammatical documentation of endangered languages. Key themes include verb structures, valence operations, and classifier systems in Dravidian languages.
Publications: Her articles (2009) explore structural linguistics through the lens of Malto grammar, emphasizing morphosyntactic patterns and language documentation methodologies.
