Dr. Celso de Mello Donegá is an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Utrecht University. His research focuses on the chemistry and optoelectronic properties of colloidal nanocrystals and heteronanocrystals, particularly exploring their applications in optoelectronics, photonics, and energy conversion. He leads the Condensed Matter and Interfaces group within the Debye Institute for Nanomaterials Science.
Dr. Donegá's expertise spans nanomaterials synthesis, colloidal chemistry, luminescent solar concentrators, and spectroscopic analysis. His work emphasizes non-toxic semiconductor nanocrystals (e.g., InP, InSb) and heterostructured materials, aiming to advance sustainable technologies. He has held academic roles since 1989, including prior positions at the Federal University of Pernambuco, Brazil, before joining Utrecht University in 2000.
His research highlights include developing methods for synthesizing high-quality III-V semiconductor nanocrystals and studying their properties under varying conditions. He has contributed to understanding self-absorption losses in luminescent solar concentrators and optimizing their efficiency through material design. His work has been published in over 170 peer-reviewed articles and presented at international conferences.
Dr. Donegá collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to address challenges in nanomaterials engineering and sustainable energy solutions. His lab focuses on bridging fundamental science and applied technologies, with a focus on circular economy principles.
