Celia M. Klin is the Dean of Harpur College at Binghamton University's Harpur College of Arts and Sciences, affiliated with the Psychology Department. Her research focuses on psycholinguistics, specifically how readers process and remember written language, including narrative comprehension, memory representation, and cognitive processes involved in understanding connected discourse. She holds a PhD and MS from the University of Massachusetts and a BS from Cornell University.
Her research examines readers' memory for stories, spatial information in narratives, and how context influences interpretation. Notable findings include studies on character perspective tracking and the impact of punctuation in digital communication. Klin has been honored with the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching and Faculty Service.
Her work spans collaborative projects with students and explores interdisciplinary areas such as discourse coherence, inference generation, and narrative processing. The Reading and Memory Lab under her leadership investigates these cognitive mechanisms in depth.
