Dr Celia Brayfield serves as a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University within the School of Writing, Publishing and the Humanities. An accomplished author with nine novels and seven non-fiction works spanning London social novels to international bestsellers, she contributes significantly to literary education through PhD supervision, course development (including an MA in historical fiction and undergraduate genre fiction modules), and national leadership via the National Association of Writers in Education and QAA Subject Benchmark groups.
Her academic foundation includes a PhD in Creative Writing, with professional affiliations through The Society of Authors. Current research projects feature a novel exploring Mary, Queen of Scots' final years and a biography of Victorian philanthropist Angela Burdett-Coutts.
Brayfield's scholarly focus centers on women's writing and historical fiction, extending to genre fiction, post-colonial minority cultures, and emerging writers. Her recent publication Writing Black Beauty: Anna Sewell and the story of animal rights examines literature's role in advancing animal welfare through Sewell's influential work.
Professional recognition includes:

In academic service, she formerly chaired NAWE's higher education committee and contributed to national curriculum standards.
