Celia B. Barnes is an Associate Professor of English at Lawrence University, located in Main Hall 304. She has been affiliated with the university since 2010 and specializes in Restoration and eighteenth-century British literature. Her research focuses on figures such as Samuel Johnson, James Boswell, Hester Thrale, Elizabeth Carter, and Laurence Sterne. She co-edited the Oxford World's Classics edition of Johnson and Boswell's Tour to the Hebrides and is currently working on a Broadview edition of Daniel Defoe's Journal of the Plague Year with Jack Lynch.
Education: A.B. in English from The College of William and Mary (1998), Ph.D. in English with a minor in History from Indiana University Bloomington (2010).
Her research interests span eighteenth-century literary networks, authorship dynamics, and historical contextualization of texts. Beyond academia, she enjoys cooking and true-crime TV series, though the latter often keeps her awake at night.
