Cefe López

Dr. Cefe López is a Research Professor at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Institute of Materials Science of Madrid (ICMM), with over twenty years of experience in photonic materials research. He has held significant institutional roles including coordination of the CSIC Materials Science Area and membership on the CSIC Scientific Advisory Board, and currently serves on the ICMM Strategic Committee.

He earned his PhD in optical properties of semiconductors from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, followed by a postdoctoral position at the University of Oxford and a teaching appointment at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid before joining CSIC as a tenured scientist.

His research program focuses on self-assembled photonic structures including photonic crystals, photonic glasses, and random media phenomena. The group's work spans fundamental light diffusion mechanisms (coherent backscattering, Anderson localization) to applied materials synthesis (silica spheres, opal sintering), with significant contributions to understanding vacancy-doped systems and random lasing. This interdisciplinary research bridges condensed matter physics, nanotechnology, and optical engineering.

Dr. López has supervised over ten PhD students, most continuing research careers internationally. He actively participates in postgraduate education through university programs and international schools, while maintaining strong peer review and editorial commitments for leading journals including Advanced Materials and Nature-family publications.

His laboratory maintains an international profile through conference organization, extensive invited talks, and collaborative projects reflected in publications across Nature, Physical Review Letters, and Advanced Materials, with cumulative citations exceeding eight thousand.
