Cecília Salgado Guimarães da Silva is an Associate Professor at the Bernoulli Institute's Department of Algebra within the University of Groningen. Her research focuses on arithmetic algebraic geometry, particularly rational points on algebraic varieties, elliptic fibrations, and applications to coding theory. She holds editorial roles for Indagationes Math and serves as an Academic Ambassador for Latin America within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Notable awards include the Simons Fellowship (ICTP), Humboldt Fellowship, and L'Oréal Women in Science recognition. Her work spans collaborations in number theory and algebraic geometry, with recent grants supporting research on elliptic surfaces and K3 surfaces.
Her academic career includes fellowships such as the Serrapilheira grant (2018) and has led to over 20 peer-reviewed publications. Current research emphasizes rank jumps in elliptic surfaces and the Hilbert property, with contributions to understanding Brauer elements on del Pezzo surfaces. She actively participates in conferences and organizes research directions in number theory through collaborative initiatives like Women in Numbers Europe ((WIN-E) programs).
