Cecilia Wallmark

Cecilia Wallmark is an Associate Professor and Director of the Centre for Hydrogen Energy Systems Sweden (CH2ESS) at Luleå University of Technology's Department of Engineering Sciences and Mathematics. She has served as CH2ESS Director since March 2022, leading research and education collaboration between academia, industry, energy companies and public partners at regional, national, Nordic, European and international levels.

With expertise spanning over two decades since 1999, Dr. Wallmark is recognized as a central figure in Sweden's hydrogen sector. Her research focuses on hydrogen use in industrial processes and energy systems, with particular emphasis on hydrogen infrastructure, sustainable transportation, energy supply, safety, and societal aspects of hydrogen implementation. Her work bridges academic research with practical industry applications through close collaboration with Swedish industry and global stakeholders.

Dr. Wallmark's publication record demonstrates consistent contribution to hydrogen energy research, with recent work examining waste heat recovery from hydrogen industries, electricity network modeling, and hosting capacity of distribution grids. Her research spans both technical and societal dimensions of hydrogen implementation, reflecting a comprehensive approach to energy system transition.

As an educator, she teaches and develops new courses for students, companies, and the public, contributing to workforce development in the emerging hydrogen economy. Her leadership extends to project management of ongoing research initiatives related to stakeholders, energy supply, safety, hydrogen infrastructure, and business development.

Before joining Luleå University, Dr. Wallmark held significant industry positions including Head of Section for Sweco Energy Strategies where she developed an international hydrogen network across 10 countries with 150 experts, and Chairman of the Board of Hydrogen Sweden (Vätgas Sverige). Her doctoral work at KTH Royal Institute of Technology focused on fuel cell systems design and evaluation.
