Cecilia Gaposchkin is the Charles A. and Elfriede A. Collis Professor of History at Dartmouth College, specializing in late medieval cultural history. She holds a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley (2001) and researches crusades, Capetian kingship, liturgy, and relics, with recent work focusing on thirteenth-century Parisian ceremonial practices.
Education:
- B.A. University of Michigan (1992)
- M.A. University of California, Berkeley (1996)
- Ph.D. University of California, Berkeley (2001)
Her scholarship examines how liturgy and material culture forged crusade ideology and royal sanctity, particularly through relic veneration. Recent publications analyze liturgical manuscripts and relic translations, revealing how sacred objects mediated political power.
Gaposchkin's extensive translations of medieval texts provide critical primary sources for studying sainthood construction and royal propaganda. Her interdisciplinary approach combines historical analysis with religious studies and visual culture methodologies.
