Catia Silva

Catia Silva is an Instructional Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Florida. She coordinates the MS programs in Applied Data Science and AI Systems. Her research focuses on machine learning, signal processing, and interdisciplinary applications in cognitive science and renewable energy forecasting.

Education: PhD (2018), MS (2012) from University of Porto, and BS in Applied Mathematics (2010).

Research Areas: Machine learning, AI education, workforce development, neural engineering, and renewable energy systems. She has developed models for EEG analysis and solar/wind forecasting.

Awards: Multiple teaching awards including 2025 HWCOE Undergraduate Teacher of the Year and 2021 IEEE Faculty of the Year.

Advising: Supervised over 20 student projects including prosthetic interfaces, stock price prediction, and plant health monitoring systems.
