Cathrine Edelhard Tømte is a full professor at the Department of Information Systems at the University of Agder, Norway. She also serves as deputy director of CeDIT (Centre for Digital Transformation) and visiting professor at SLATE (Centre for the Science of Learning and Technology) at the University of Bergen. With a PhD from NTNU, her research focuses on digital transformation in education, professional digital competence for educators, and sociotechnical systems in learning environments.
Her academic journey includes prior roles as a research professor at NIFU (Norwegian Center for Innovation Research in Education) and OECD-related work. Key research areas include ICT governance in schools, teacher training programs, and the impact of 1:1 device initiatives. She contributes to courses on digital competencies for pre-service teachers and school leaders.
Research highlights include longitudinal studies on ICT coordinators' evolving roles, leadership in digital schools, and comparative analyses of AI trust in education across countries. She co-edited the 2024 volume Lærerrollen i endring, exploring digital pedagogical shifts. Her work often bridges theory and practice, emphasizing institutional readiness and collaborative learning spaces.
