Catherine Paul is a Senior Lecturer at Lund University's Faculty of Engineering, affiliated with the Division of Water Resources Engineering, Division of Biotechnology and Applied Microbiology, and the LTH Water Profile Area. She leads the AquaClim Water Research School and contributes to sustainable water management through microbial research.
- PhD in Bacteriology (Queen’s University, Canada, 2005)
- Postdoctoral experience at Health Canada, National Research Council of Canada, and Lund University
Her research explores bacterial metabolism and biofilm dynamics in environmental contexts, aiming to harness microbial processes for water purification, contamination reduction, and climate mitigation. Recent work focuses on slow sand filters, cyanide biodegradation, and greenhouse gas production in fiberbanks.
Notable awards include election to the Fysiographen learned society (2024). She supervises PhD student Iria Fejóo Rey and collaborates on projects like AquaClim and LU Water.
