Catherine Montgomery is a Professor of Education and Deputy Executive Dean (Global) at the University of Durham's Faculty of Social Sciences and Health. She holds visiting roles at the Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (Milan) and Monash University’s China Research Network. Her work focuses on higher education mobilities, curriculum decolonization, and knowledge mobility through doctoral research analysis.
Previously, she served as Academic Director for International Partnerships at the University of Bath and held professorial roles at the University of Hull. Her collaborative projects span Denmark, Mexico, Vietnam, China, Hong Kong, Australia, and Europe, including British Council initiatives and ESRC-funded research on education autonomy.
Her current research explores the history of the doctorate in India and AI-driven analysis of the British Library’s EThOS collection (637,000+ doctorates). She leads a team developing an AI tool to analyze underused doctoral research archives.
