Catherine Lee MBE is Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities, Education and Social Sciences at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), and Visiting Professor at Bishop Grosseteste University. A former teacher with over two decades’ experience in diverse educational settings, she has dedicated her career to advancing LGBTQ+ equality, education reform, and inclusive leadership. Her roles include Deputy Dean (2016–2021) and Head of Education at ARU, where she revitalized the Education department and led initiatives that propelled ARU to top the Guardian Education League Table in 2020.
Education Background: Holds a PhD, MPhil, and MA from the Institute of Education (UCL) and Anglia Ruskin University, complemented by a Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). Key research interests span LGBTQ+ inclusion, teacher well-being, autoethnography, and leadership authenticity. Her标志性 work includes the book Pretended (2023), which inspired the BAFTA-nominated film Blue Jean, and the Courageous Leaders programme, the UK’s first LGBTQ+ leadership initiative for educators.
Research & Recognition: Over 20 peer-reviewed articles and books address LGBTQ+ issues in education, policy impacts of Section 28, and leadership development. Honors include an MBE (2023), National Teaching Fellowship (2021), and inclusion in the UK Pride Power List (2019). Her work bridges academia and public advocacy through media appearances (BBC, Virgin Radio) and strategic governance roles in education and charity sectors.
