Catherine Kallin is a Professor in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at McMaster University. She specializes in theoretical condensed matter physics, focusing on strongly correlated electron systems, high-temperature superconductors, and quantum materials. Her research group collaborates with institutions like the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics (KITP) and the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics.
- Education: B.Sc. Mathematics and Physics (UBC, 1979), Ph.D. Physics (Harvard, 1984), Postdoc at UCSB (1984).
- Joined McMaster in 1986 as Assistant Professor, promoted to Full Professor in 1996.
Research interests include quantum materials theory, frustrated magnetism, and topological phases. She co-organized the 2007 KITP program on chiral p-wave superconductivity and contributed to Physics in Canada special issues on superconductivity.
- Awards: CIFAR Quantum Materials Fellow.
- Teaching: Graduate Quantum Mechanics courses (2011/12).
Advises current graduate students Phillip Ashby, Michael Young, and Mirasaeed Zelli. Collaborates with institutions like TRIUMF and the Gordon Research Conferences.
