معرفی
Catherine Jones is a Chancellor's Fellow (Lecturer) in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, within the Faculty of Engineering. She is affiliated with the Institute for Energy and Environment and leads research in resilient, compact electrical power systems with applications in aerospace and microgrids.
Her research focuses on the integration of electrical power systems with carbon fibre composite structures, aiming to develop multifunctional systems that combine electrical, structural, and thermal functionalities. Key areas include electrical fault diagnostics, health monitoring, grounding topologies, and lightweight design for decarbonising aviation. She employs advanced modeling, simulation, and hardware testing methods.
The recent publications reflect a strong trend toward sustainable aviation technologies, particularly hybrid and more-electric aircraft, with emphasis on safety, efficiency, and system integration. Her work bridges materials science, power electronics, and aerospace engineering, contributing to next-generation aircraft electrification and net-zero goals.
She is actively involved in research leadership, serving as Principal Investigator on multiple funded projects, including those supported by EPSRC and industry partners like Vertical Aerospace. She also contributes to education through the Vertically Integrated Project on Integrated Systems for Decarbonisation of Aviation.
Her professional activities include outreach (e.g., UKESF Girls into Electronics), invited talks, and peer review. She supervises research students and collaborates extensively across disciplines and institutions.
