Dr. Catherine Jenkins is a Research Fellow and Public Health Professional Development & Research Officer at London South Bank University (LSBU), affiliated with the Health and Wellbeing Research Centre and the Lived Experience of Distress group. She holds a PhD in Public Health from LSBU, alongside a BA (Hons) from the University of Oxford and a PgCert in Information Science from City, University of London. Her dual role involves both research and teaching, focusing on enhancing public health practice and policy.
Jenkins is actively engaged in evaluating public health interventions through the NIHR-funded PHIRST South Bank Research Centre. Her research interests include critical health literacy, community-based interventions targeting gambling harms, youth involvement in public health, and settings-based health promotion. She also teaches masterclasses for UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) preparation and lectures on health literacy for Occupational Therapy students.
Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in education and health. She holds leadership roles, including Vice President of the Health Literacy Section at EUPHA and Joint Lead of LSBU's Systematic Review Board. Notable projects include evaluations of advocacy initiatives against unhealthy food advertising and gambling harm reduction programs.
Jenkins' recent research emphasizes participatory methodologies, co-design approaches, and addressing health inequities through community engagement. Her publications span peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and conference contributions, reflecting her commitment to translating research into actionable public health strategies.
