Catherine J. Staes, PhD, MPH, RN, FAMIA, FACMI, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Utah. She holds a PhD in Medical Informatics from the University of Utah and an MPH from Johns Hopkins University. Her career spans clinical nursing, epidemiology, public health service (CDC, state/local health departments), and health informatics research.
Dr. Staes' research focuses on:
- Developing informatics solutions to bridge clinical and public health systems
- Designing clinical decision support tools for guideline implementation
- Advancing health data standards for interoperability
- Curriculum development in public health informatics
Her publication portfolio (2018-2024) demonstrates strong emphasis on:
- Public health informatics infrastructure and emergency response systems
- Clinical AI applications in oncology prognosis and decision support
- EHR integration methodologies for quality measurement and patient-generated data
- User-centered design of health information systems
