Catherine Hartley serves as Center Director and Associate Professor of Psychology and Neural Science at New York University. She earned her B.S. in Symbolic Systems from Stanford University, completed her Ph.D. at New York University, and conducted postdoctoral training in developmental cognitive neuroscience at the Sackler Institute for Developmental Psychobiology, Weill Cornell Medical College, where she later held an Assistant Professor position before returning to NYU in 2016.
Her research program investigates the developmental trajectories and dynamic mechanisms of learning, memory, and decision-making processes through integrated cognitive, computational, and neural methodologies. The HARTLEY LAB specifically examines how these fundamental processes evolve across the lifespan to shape behavioral outcomes, employing diverse experimental approaches to map cognitive architectures and neural substrates underlying adaptive choices.
She leads the HARTLEY LAB which maintains active research participation pipelines, undergraduate research assistant programs, PhD recruitment initiatives, and specialized resources including GitHub repositories and high-school outreach materials. The lab's community engagement framework supports translational research through structured pathways for volunteer participation and academic collaboration.
