Catherine Dussault is an Assistant Professor in Sociological and Anthropological Studies at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Social Sciences. Her research bridges Indigenous anti-colonial studies and the sociology of science, focusing on research conducted by and for Indigenous Peoples, particularly the Inuit of Nunavik. She advocates for decolonial methodologies and self-determination in research governance.
She has collaborated with Nunavik Inuit organizations to establish new research governance frameworks, emphasizing Indigenous knowledge systems. Her work also involves exploring ethical research practices and decolonizing university education. She is a member of the Tri-Council Reference Group for Indigenous Research Reviews and previously held roles at Cornell University and the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Social Sciences.
Teaching: Courses include ANT 6504 Autochtonies, ANT 2526 Anthropologie et peuples autochtones, EAS 4503 Séminaire sur la recherche inuit au Canada, and SOC 7512 Perspectives autochtones sur la décolonisation des savoirs.
Current Projects: Collaborates with the British Academy's Times of A Just Transition initiative (2023–present). Her research emphasizes Indigenous resurgence, decolonial governance, and epistemic justice.
Research Interests include Indigenous self-determination, Inuit culture, history of science, qualitative research methods, and the sociology of knowledge.
