Catherine Dormor is Pro Vice-Chancellor and Head of College for Design, Creative and Digital Industries at the University of Westminster. She holds a dual academic rank as Professor of Textile Practices and Feminisms. Previously, she led the Westminster School of Arts since January 2023. Her work bridges textile art, feminist theory, and community-based practices, emphasizing textile as language and method to explore collective identity and repair. Dormor chairs the Sixty Two Group of Textile Artists and serves as a Trustee for CHEAD and The Bridge at Waterloo, advocating for arts accessibility.
Her research focuses on textile processes (stitch, weave, fraying) as tools for understanding community dynamics. She exhibits widely, publishes in journals like Textile: the journal of cloth and culture, and co-edits academic works such as Transnational Belonging: and Female Agency in the Arts. Her pedagogy centers compassion and rigorous practice-led teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Recent work explores repair and reparation as acts that acknowledge rupture while fostering collective understanding. Dormor’s publications and exhibitions reflect her interdisciplinary approach, blending feminist theory with material practices.
