Dr. Catherine Cullingham is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at Carleton University, Faculty of Science. She holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Molecular Biology & Genetics from the University of Guelph and a Ph.D. in Watershed Ecosystems from Trent University, followed by postdoctoral research at the University of Alberta. Her work focuses on the genomics of plants, pests, and pathogens, with an emphasis on landscape genetics, population genomics, and conservation biology. Current research explores the genetic factors influencing disease spread in systems like mountain pine beetle, chronic wasting disease in deer, and mosquito-borne viruses under climate change.
Research Interests:
- Landscape genetics and population genomics
- Host-pathogen interactions (e.g., mountain pine beetle, mosquitoes)
- Conservation genetics of endangered species (e.g., prairie dogs, swift foxes)
- Climate change impacts on disease dynamics
Labs & Collaborations: The Genomics of Plants, Pests & Pathogens (GP3) lab. Collaborations include the Calgary Zoo for conservation genetics and institutions addressing chronic wasting disease.
Upcoming Conferences (2025):
- Ontario Ecology Ethology Evolution Colloquium (May)
- European Meeting for PhD Students in Evolutionary Biology (June)
- Canadian Society for Ecology and Evolution (July)
- Canadian Forest Genetics (August)
- Entomological Societies of Alberta & Canada (October)
