Caterina Nirta is a Senior Lecturer in Critical Theory at the Department of Law and Criminology, Royal Holloway, University of London. Her work bridges philosophy, gender studies, and legal theory, focusing on trans embodiment, normativity, and corporeal/spatial dissonance. She holds a PhD from the University of Westminster (2014), an MA from Goldsmiths (2006), and a BA from the University of Bologna (2005).
Research interests include feminist philosophy, posthumanism, utopian studies, and the intersections of law and gender. She has held visiting roles at Duke University (2019–2020) and is affiliated with the University of Westminster’s Law and Theory Lab. Notable awards include the RASP Award 2022 and Reid Research Fund Award 2023.
Her projects include Trans/forming Pregnancy (exploring gender and pregnancy embodiment) and Law and the Senses (interdisciplinary legal studies). She actively participates in conferences, workshops, and initiatives addressing queer theory, legal systems, and urban sociology.
