Catalina Calafat Ripoll

Catalina Calafat Ripoll serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of French Philology at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), teaching French Literature and Culture, Literary Translation, and related courses across multiple programs including the Double Degree in Business Administration and Tourism, Degree in Tourism, and Master's Degree in Modern Languages and Literatures.

Education:

• MA (Hons) in Catalan (Hispanic) Philology, University of the Balearic Islands
• MA in French and German Translation and Interpreting, Autonomous University of Barcelona
• PhD from UIB (awarded UIB Doctoral Excellence Award in 2001)

Research Interests: Her scholarly work centers on Literary Translation and Cultural Transfer, Comparative Literature with emphasis on Anglophone-Francophone interactions, and application of Information and Communication Technologies in Foreign Language Teaching. Additional expertise spans Applied Linguistics in translation/interpretation and Language Acquisition studies.

Scientific Recognition:

• National accreditation as Senior Lecturer by Spain's National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (2015)

Professional Leadership: Dr. Calafat Ripoll co-convened UIB's Master's programme in Literary Translation (2008-2010), co-organized the First International Conference on the Politics of Translation (2016), and has completed research sabbaticals at Université de Corti (France), Université de Montréal (Canada), Lessius Hogeschool of Antwerp (Belgium), CUNY Graduate Center, Queen Mary University of London, and University of Saint Andrews. She maintains active collaboration with international research teams in Comparative Literature and Language Acquisition.
