Casey J Huckins is a Professor and Department Chair of Biological Sciences at Michigan Technological University, affiliated with the Great Lakes Research Center (GLRC). He holds a PhD from Michigan State University (1996). His research focuses on ecology and restoration of aquatic systems, including lakes, streams, wetlands, and riparian zones, with an emphasis on human-impacted ecosystems. He investigates fish ecology, invasive species management, biomonitoring, and habitat restoration. Recent work includes coaster brook trout restoration, effects of invasive Eurasian Watermilfoil, and sediment aggradation impacts.
Education: PhD in Biology from Michigan State University (1996).
Research interests span ecological patterns/processes in human-affected systems, restoration-driven science, and applied conservation strategies. Key projects address coaster brook trout rehabilitation, Arctic Grayling habitat assessment, and invasive species control.
Publications highlight interdisciplinary approaches to aquatic ecosystem challenges, integrating remote sensing, biogeochemistry, and habitat modeling. Advises students in aquatic ecology and restoration biology. Collaborates on projects funded by agencies and institutions focused on Great Lakes ecosystems and watershed management.
