Casey Haining is a Research Fellow at the Australian Centre for Health Law Research within the Faculty of Business and Law at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). She concurrently holds a Research Assistant appointment at the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health while completing her PhD in law and health policy. Her academic journey began with a Bachelor of Biomedicine (neuroscience major) and Honours in Population Health from the University of Melbourne, followed by a Juris Doctor and Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice.
Research Interests: Casey’s interdisciplinary work bridges law, policy, and medicine, focusing on voluntary assisted dying, abortion law, conscientious objection, and genetics-related legal frameworks. Her PhD research explores the perspectives of Australian medical practitioners on voluntary assisted dying for people living with dementia, reflecting her commitment to addressing ethical and legal challenges in end-of-life care.
Recent Publications examine the regulatory challenges of implementing voluntary assisted dying laws, self-care strategies for healthcare professionals, and public health implications of genetic technologies. Notably, her 2025 work in the Medical Law Review analyzes clinician perspectives on regulatory frameworks, while her 2024 Bioethical Inquiry article discusses digital innovations in advance care planning.
