Stefano Caserini is an Associate Professor in the Department of Engineering and Architecture at the University of Parma, where he teaches courses such as Climate Change, Mitigation of Climate Change, and Water and Waste Treatment Technologies within second-cycle degree programs in Environmental and Land Management Engineering and Environmental Engineering for Risk Mitigation.
His research focuses on climate change mitigation, carbon dioxide removal, ocean alkalinity enhancement, and environmental impact assessment. He leads the Desarc-Maresanus project aimed at decreasing seawater acidification through carbon removal and is co-director of the scientific journal “Ingegneria dell’Ambiente” (Engineering of the Environment).
The recent publications highlight a strong focus on ocean-based carbon sequestration methods, including ocean liming and bicarbonate-enriched solutions, as well as broader climate policy analysis and CO2 removal technologies. His work bridges environmental engineering with climate science and public policy.
Stefano is actively involved in science communication, having authored six books on climate change, including “Sex and the Climate,” and founded Climalteranti.it, one of Italy’s leading climate change blogs. Since June 2022, he has served as Councilor for Environment, Mobility, Climate Action, and Innovation for the Municipality of Lodi, demonstrating a commitment to translating research into real-world policy.
He has not received any explicitly mentioned scientific awards. There is no information available about formal students or advisees. He is involved in research grants through the Desarc-Maresanus project and editorial leadership.
He is associated with the Desarc-Maresanus research team, which investigates innovative ocean-based climate intervention strategies, and contributes to public discourse through Climalteranti.it and book publications.
