Carsten Schultz is a Professor and Chair at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in the Department of Chemical Physiology & Biochemistry. He co-founded Araxa Bioscience GmbH (2019) and SiChem GmbH (2001), and previously held senior scientist and group leader roles at EMBL Heidelberg (2001-2019). He has served as Associate Editor for Chemical Science since 2015 and contributed to over 180 publications in top-tier journals including Nature, Science, and Angewandte Chemie.
His research focuses on lipid signaling, phosphoinositide dynamics, and optical uncaging techniques to study cellular processes. He has developed chemical tools for live-cell imaging and signal transduction, with applications in exocytosis, metabolic regulation, and inflammatory diagnostics.
