- Hebrew Literature
- Narrative Ethics
- Socio-Narratology
Her research explores the intersection of ancient biblical texts with contemporary ethical frameworks, particularly examining how narratives shape cultural identity and perceptions of 'the Other.' Dr. Cifers employs linguistic analysis and narrative ethics to investigate problematic passages in biblical literature, with special attention to gender dynamics and representation.
Her recent publications examine Genesis 34 through the lens of narrative ethics and analyze Jubilees and Josephus's Judean Antiquities to understand how ancient Jewish writers constructed national identity and defined relationships with cultural others. Her work reveals how these ancient texts negotiated boundaries between communities and established ethical frameworks for cross-cultural engagement.
Dr. Cifers' scholarship demonstrates consistent interest in:
- Genesis interpretation
- Ancient Jewish literature
- Narrative ethics
- Cultural representation in religious texts
- Gender studies in biblical contexts
- Literary analysis of biblical narratives
