Carrie Brown

Carrie Brown, MD, MPH, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. She also serves as an Assistant Consulting Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Duke University School of Medicine.

Dr. Brown is a board-certified psychiatrist with expertise in community mental health, behavioral health resilience, and health services research. Her clinical practice spans inpatient care, integrated care models, and correctional settings.

She is currently the Chief Psychiatrist and Deputy Chief Medical Officer for North Carolina’s Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), where she leads behavioral health initiatives across 14 state-operated facilities.
