معرفی
Carrie Benjamin is an urban anthropologist currently serving as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie/EUTOPIA-SIF postdoctoral fellow at CY Cergy Paris University, hosted by the PLACES laboratory. Her research examines the normalization of counterterrorism infrastructure within everyday urban environments across English cities.
Her ethnographic work in Birmingham investigates how bollards, CCTV systems, and security patrols transform public space experiences through societal acclimatization to persistent threat perceptions. She documents residents' development of civil inattention toward militarized landscapes, revealing subtle shifts in urban citizenship under contemporary security paradigms. This research bridges anthropology, geography, and security studies to analyze the banalization of geopolitical crisis in civilian contexts.
Her scientific recognition includes:
- Marie Skłodowska-Curie EUTOPIA-SIF Fellowship (European Union Horizon 2020 program)
Her current project receives primary funding through this competitive European research fellowship. She maintains affiliation with the PLACES laboratory (UMR 7217), a joint research unit of CY Cergy Paris University, CNRS, and EHESS specializing in spatial analysis and urban studies.
