Dr. Carrie Beal is a Professor of Biology at Mount Vernon Nazarene University (2007–present), where she teaches and conducts research in immunology. Previously, she served as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the Cleveland Clinic (2006–2007) and a Research Specialist at Ashland Chemical's Division of Specialty Polymers & Adhesives (1996–2001). She holds a Ph.D. in Immunology and Molecular Pathogenesis from Emory University (2006) and a B.S. from Ashland University (1999).
Her research focuses on T cell biology, autoimmune disease mechanisms, and neuroimmunology, particularly exploring MHC-peptide interactions and their role in immune tolerance. She has contributed to studies on experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) as a model for multiple sclerosis. Additionally, she emphasizes health professions education, addressing cultural and religious considerations for pre-health students.
