Carrie Ann Matyac is an Assistant Professor of Nursing at Pacific Lutheran University's School of Nursing, part of the College of Health Professions. She holds a DNP from PLU (2018), a Master's in Rural Adult Nurse Practitioner from the University of Washington (2004), and dual Bachelor's degrees in Sociology and Nursing from Case Western Reserve University (2001, 1999).
Her expertise focuses on Doctor of Nursing Practice Core Classes, Family Nurse Practitioner education, and Population Health. Key research interests include chronic pain management, opioid abuse mitigation, and community-based clinical training. She chairs the Controlled Substances Steering Committee and contributed to the HRSA ANEW Grant.
Dr. Matyac has presented widely on topics such as opioid addiction prevention, behavioral health integration in primary care, and interdisciplinary pain management. Her career included 15 years as a primary care provider in rural and Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) settings before transitioning to full-time academia.
