Carri W. Chan is the John A. Howard Professor of Business at Columbia University's Columbia Business School, where she leads the Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Management Program. She holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from MIT and MS/PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. Her research focuses on healthcare operations management, leveraging data-driven stochastic modeling and algorithmic design to optimize patient flow in hospitals. She collaborates with institutions like Geisinger Health, Kaiser Permanente, and Montefiore Medical Center. She is an Affiliated Member of the Financial and Business Analytics and Health Analytics centers at Columbia.
Her work emphasizes dynamic control of healthcare systems and econometric analysis. Awards include the NSF CAREER (2014), POMS Wickham Skinner (2016), and MSOM Young Scholar (2019) prizes. She advises on healthcare system efficiency through empirical and theoretical frameworks, bridging clinical practice and academic research.
Her contributions span improving healthcare resource allocation, queuing system optimization, and stochastic process modeling in medical contexts. Ongoing efforts involve interdisciplinary collaboration with clinicians and administrators to translate academic insights into practical hospital management solutions.
