Dr. Carolyn Mak (she/her) is an Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream at the University of Toronto’s Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work. With over 20 years of practice in Toronto, she specializes in child, youth, and caregiver support across public and independent school settings. Her professional leadership includes roles as Director of Knowledge Mobilization at Kids Help Phone and Director of Well-Being at an independent girls school.
Education: MSW (University of Toronto), PhD (Smith College). Teaching focuses on bridging clinical practice theory with social justice imperatives. Research interests include anti-Black racism in social work education, decolonizing practice frameworks, and social-emotional learning in girls' education.
Recipient of national awards for school social work innovation and educator excellence. Active in doctoral student mentorship, including Smith College’s comprehensive exam seminars since 2017.
