Carolyn Allen is a Senior Teaching Fellow at the University of Strathclyde's Speech And Language Therapy department, working part-time (3.5 days/week) alongside an honorary clinical contract with NHS Lanarkshire and an independent practice. Her role combines academic teaching with clinical expertise in voice disorders and adult stammering. She is passionate about neurodiversity awareness and ensuring individuals with communication differences feel heard.
Research interests focus on teaching voice health and pedagogical approaches to fluency disorders. She leads modules like Clinical and Professional Capabilities 5 and teaches adult stammering, voice disorders, and research methodologies. Carolyn is also Placement Lead and Admissions Tutor.
Her projects include a voice care program for student teachers (2018–2020) and non-speech oro-motor exercises in stroke-induced dysarthria (2010–2012). She has been recognized with the Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (2021).
Collaborative activities include media engagement (e.g., a Radio Islam interview on stammering) and consultancy for teacher voice care workshops.
