Dr. Caroline Shenaz Hossein is the Canada Research Chair of Africana Development and Feminist Political Economy, and an Associate Professor of Global Development at the University of Toronto Scarborough. She is cross-appointed to the University of Toronto's Political Science graduate program. As founder of the Diverse Solidarity Economies (DISE) Collective, she advocates for cooperativism and membership institutions in Black communities globally.
Her research focuses on feminist political economy, solidarity economics, and Black financial practices. Through works like The Banker Ladies and Politicized Microfinance, she critiques capitalist economic models and documents alternative economies in the African diaspora. Her projects employ Black feminist frameworks to analyze informal sustaining practices and advocate for their inclusion in policy-making.
She has received the

- Recognition as one of Canada's most accomplished Black Women (2024, 100abc Women)
