Caroline Koons serves as Assistant Professor of Communication in the Humanities and Communication department within Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's College of Arts and Sciences at the Prescott Campus since Fall 2022. She teaches courses in speech, ethics, writing, social movements, and strategic communication while serving as course monitor for HU 330 - Values and Ethics.
Her research focuses on rhetorical histories of music and American identity, alongside pedagogical approaches to speech apprehension reduction. Key projects include analyzing "We Shall Overcome" in Civil Rights Movement rhetoric, studying 1876 Centennial Exhibition music using Historical Society of Pennsylvania archives, and collaborative research on live vs. recorded speech apprehension with psychology faculty.
Dr. Koons mentors the Ethics in Engineering competition team and oversees undergraduate research in speech psychology, music pedagogy, and ethics curriculum development. In 2023, she was elected Membership Coordinator and Steering Committee Member for the American Society for the History of Rhetoric.
